Best Restaurants in the Tri-Cities - An East Tennessee Newcomer’s Opinion

As someone who has moved more than a dozen times and also loves to travel, I have a foolproof way to get to know an area - food! The best part about going to a new area is learning about regional cuisine and trying out all the local restaurants. Since we’ve moved to Limestone, TN, we have tried our fair share of restaurants. Keep reading to know which restaurants and food I liked the best!

Southern Craft - Johnson City

Southern Craft was actually the first restaurant I tried when visiting Johnson City. I am a suck for good fried chicken, so I was hooked from the first bite. I have also tried the burnt ends sandwich, which of course you can never go wrong with such a delicious protein. Since we moved here, Southern Craft has become our go-to spot to take our visitors because it truly has something for everyone!

Aubrey’s - Greeneville

Fried chicken and burges - my two favorite foods. And let me tell you, Aubrey’s did not disappoint on either fronts. While the food doesn’t have that “wow” factor for appearance that some restaurants pride themselves on, the flavor says everything. My fried chicken was delicious and the gravy added so much additional flavor. As far as the burger, my husband said it’s the best he’s had in a long time - and this is coming from the man who keeps a list rating all of the burgers he has ever tried.

BURG’r & BARREL - Johnson City

Located in the old railroad station in downtown Johnson City, BURG’r & BARREL rally maintains the unique aesthetics of a train depot. In addition to the cool looks, this restaurant delivers great food. With so many interesting burger options, it was a tough decision, but during our visit I went with the Tennessee Barrel Burger. While it was very messy to eat, it was a large and flavorful burger. Unfortunately I was so excited to eat this burger, I forgot to take a picture!

The Red Fork - Erwin

The Red Fork is located in downtown Erwin, and is worth the trip even. This cute and modern restaurant has a unique menu that has options for many different palettes. This time, I went out of my comfort zone and tried my first ever Reuben. I have to say, this sandwich was so much better than I was expecting. While I have nothing to compare it to, I can certainly say it was absolutely delicious and has made me a true fan of Reubens.

Blue Moose Burgers & Wings - Johnson City

In all honesty, my husband and I were a little skeptical about trying this place all because of the unappetizing pictures listed on the website. However, after seeing the pictures posted by customers online, we decided to give it a shot (and thank goodness we did). If I see mushrooms on a burger, I can almost guarantee you that’s what I’m getting. This burger was everything I hoped it would be. I am happy to report, I found my favorite burger and the area and will definitely be going back!

Final Thoughts

East Tennessee is filled with amazing food options! From barbeque to burgers, there is something for everyone. I am excited to try even more over the next year. Now the real question is - where can I get some dessert?
